The ZZ experiment
ZZ Plant in water
Close up of the stems
Here at the shop we have an experiment going on. We trimmed back a ZZ plant (Zamioculcas) and put it in water to see if it would root. Right now it is just very happy and green. There are no sign of roots. We really don’t know how this plant propagates itself so we are checking it out first hand to see if it will root. The ZZ plant is one of our favorites at the shop because it is so low maintenance and different from the normal. We only water it 2-3 times a month and it just stays very green and puts out new stems and leaves regularly. It also does great indoors and we never have to trim back dead or yellowing leaves. If the plant has had too much water the younger leaves begin to turn yellow. If we see that, we just let it dry out and the leaves go back to their normal glossy deep green color. Check back in a couple of weeks to see if we have any new developments.
