January 8th marks the 1 year anniversary of the tragic events that took place right in front of our own front doors and eyes. “Remembering January 8th” is a community-wide effort that will commemorate the first anniversary of the tragic day in 2011, when U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) and eighteen other citizens were shot during a public event held at the Tucson shopping center on Oracle and Ina. Six of the shooting victims died that day. This year, in order to honor Tucson’s response in the aftermath of this tragedy, many community and grassroots organizations have come together to provide a variety of commemorative events that will take place throughout January 2012.
RememberingJanuary8.org is the public’s source for information regarding these ongoing events throughout Tucson. This website also allows visitors to submit related events and share personal stories about the impact of January 8th on their lives.
Here are also some other links and pages for more information. You can also find a community of events on their Facebook page. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all family and friends and we remember this day and always for you.
